Looking for ways to teach your kids forbearance? Take a cue from Jaylen Arnold – founder of Jaylens Challenge Inc. Jaylen Arnold’s story speaks of defying bullying and disability through tolerance.

Diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome, Asperger’s Syndrome, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder at an early age of 8, a disability that made him an easy target for bullies and an object of ridicule in school. He described it as a disability that prompts him to “make a bunch of weird noises in his throat,  jerk his head, move his leg and snap his arms.” The continuous verbal attacks by bullies made his condition worse, even to a point where he could not talk, read or write.

Rather than fight back with fists or name-calling, he chose to fight with words and experience. He realized people didn’t know the effects of bullying on others, making them do horrible and unthinkable things. This made him set up Jaylens Challenge Foundation, Inc, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to promoting awareness and prevention of bullying through education and community service. The organization seeks to promote awareness through presentations for students to understand the problems bullying causes to kids and give solutions on how kids who are bullied can be helped. By sharing his personal bullying experience with other students, Jaylen has reached out to both bullies and kids who experience a similar situation.

Hearing Jaylen’s story, many stepped in to offer help to his cause. Some of these were his friends and family. What seemed like an impossible task became a source of inspiration and guidance to misguided students about doing what is right. He leaves an impression on students with a book about bullying and a wristband having the motto: “Bullying, No Way!”

Tolerance is a virtue lacking in today’s world and is the cause of many problems in society. Through Jaylen’s story, kids would get to see how one young boy, despite his many challenges, overcame the harmful effects of bullying. They also will learn how to get help for the challenges they face and how to help others.

By promoting tolerance, Jaylen’s Challenge Foundation has grown into an internationally recognized charity organization, regarded as the leading National Anti-Bullying Foundation as identified and featured on every major network globally, including ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, Discovery Health, and Nickelodeon.
