After about six weeks of summer holidays, it is now time for a switch back to school. I did make a list of fun activities for the summer holiday for my kids, and non of the activities was left untouched. They did have fun, and I can tell that going back to school is the last thing they want to hear right now. Unfortunately, they have no choice. I mentioned resumption some days ago, and I could see the anger on their faces lol…
Have you started getting your kids back to school mode? Certainly, I guess. Some schools resume next week, while almost all will be resuming the upper week. So it is about time to help your child switch from summer to back to school mode.
Here are some tips to help prepare your kids for the school mood:
Adjusting their sleeping routines gradually
Going back to the routine of early to bed early to rise after about six weeks of summer holidays will be a little stressful. So start getting them back to the routine a week before resumption to help them readjust appropriately.
Spark up interesting things about school
Get them back in the mood with interesting things about school. Tell them how their friends cannot wait to have them back in school and how their teacher misses them. When they are curious about what they would enjoy in school again, they begin to look forward to resuming.
Set goals with them
At the beginning of every new term, I set realistic goals with my kids. I start by first revisiting their results in the previous term, and we discuss their weaknesses and what they need to do to be better this new school year. Get your kids to talk about what they want to achieve for the new school term, help them plan and set achievable goals. If we want straight A’s this term, we draft out things to get us there and start working towards it. You can help your kids imbibe this culture of goal setting too. It will not only help them in school but also help them as they grow to become adults. Do you want to help your kids set and achieve their goals this new school term? Sharpen their learning skills
You get to sharpen their learning skills by giving them activities that would task their brain and thinking ability. You can give them puzzles to solve, word search, scrabble, and so on. Ensure they finish every task given to them with proper monitoring.9ijakids games and activity books can be a good one for you to get your kids into back to school mood and refresh their brain
Involve your kids with the process of buying school supplies
Getting them involved in buying the things they would be using for the new session allows them to have a voice concerning the things that have to do with going back to school. Make the transition to the new school year fun for them by going to the bookshop together.
Relate with your Child’s Feelings
Don’t just tell them about school alone; ask them questions, listen to their feelings and concerns about school. Some kids may especially have concerns about going back to school, especially if someone bullies them at school. The thought of going back to such a person may be a cause for worry. If your child expresses fear of bullying, try to check with the school authority for measures to check such.
